Police Officers’ Defense Coalition President Bert Eyler met with 5 U.S. House Representatives offices over the course of the day to discuss important law enforcement legislation and our America’s Law Enforcement Pledge.
First, Mr. Eyler met with Rep. Marlin Stutzman’s office. We discussed H.R. 503 (Qualified Immunity) and our America’s Law Enforcement Pledge, and Congressman Stutzman is considering co-sponsoring the bill and signing the pledge. He was also interested in the new legislation dealing with the Texas bill (which didn’t pass)- the Malicious Prosecution Act, as well as the bill that we are working on with the National Police Association: The Police Officer Self-Defense Protection Act.
Next, Bert had a meeting with Congressman Abe Hamadeh. He is a freshman Representative and this was an introductory meeting to introduce ourselves and the organization to his office. They also discussed H.R. 503 and our Law Enforcement Pledge. The Congressman will also consider co-sponsoring and signing the LEO Pledge. Congressman Hamadeh was formerly in the Army Reserve and was also a former Prosecutor.
Mr. Eyler’s third meeting of the day was with Congressman Brian Jack’s Office to talk about H.R. 503 and the Law Enforcement pledge, followed by a quick stop at Congresswoman Marie Gluesenkamp Perez’s office.
It was a great day on the Hill and we will continue to meet with and encourage our Representatives to speak up for and support our law enforcement officers!
