Police Officers’ Defense Coalition (PODC) is proud to announce its 2024 political engagement and success on Capitol Hill, highlighting significant achievements and milestones in our advocacy for the law enforcement community. The grassroots political organization’s efforts this year have been instrumental in advancing critical legislation and fostering strong relationships with lawmakers to ensure the safety, support, and well-being of our nation’s law enforcement officers.
Legislative Victories: Two Major LEO Bills Passed in the House
This year, PODC’s dedicated efforts helped secure the passage of two critical bills in the House of Representatives:
- H.R. 354 – LEOSA Reform Act of 2024: Passed the House on May 16, 2024. This landmark bill aims to reform the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act, enhancing protections and benefits for officers. Learn more here.
- H.R. 7851 – Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act of 2024: Passed the House on May 15, 2024. This legislation focuses on improving officer safety and wellness through comprehensive data collection and analysis. Learn more here.
These bills are now advancing to the Senate, and Police Officers’ Defense Coalition will remain steadfast in advocating for their swift passage as we enter the 119th Congressional session in 2025.
Capitol Hill Advocacy Statistics for 2024
The grassroots efforts on Capitol Hill this year have also been unparalleled for Police Officers’ Defense Coalition. Here’s a snapshot of our impact on the Hill:
- 41 trips to Capitol Hill by PODC Vice President Bert Eyler and the PODC team to engage directly with lawmakers and their staff.
- Throughout 2024, we had meetings with 156 congressional offices, including 132 members of the House of Representatives who received our endorsement.
- Engagement with 13 members of the Judiciary Committee, including the committee chair, ensuring our voice is heard where it matters most.
- Productive discussions with 7 Democratic offices, fostering bipartisan dialogue on law enforcement issues.
- Added 16 cosponsors to H.R. 233 since initiating meetings in February, demonstrating the growing support for our initiatives.
