This week, Police Officers’ Defense Coalition President Bert Eyler continued our ongoing engagement with Members of Congress on Capitol Hill, advancing pro-law enforcement legislation and strengthening relationships ahead of the 119th Congress and National Police Week.
As always, our mission remains clear: protect those who protect us.
On Tuesday February 17th, Bert met with the Office of Rep. Chip Roy to discuss several key pieces of legislation that directly impact officer safety and law enforcement support nationwide.
The conversation centered on:
- H.R. 6120 – SROS Act
- H.R. 7210 – Fuel the Force Act
- H.R. 7285 – Bulletproof Law Enforcement Vehicle Act
Each of these bills addresses critical operational and safety needs for officers serving in communities across America. The Office committed to reviewing the legislation in detail and bringing it forward for the Congressman’s consideration.
With Rep. Roy pursuing the Texas Attorney General’s office, it was especially important to ensure continuity in support for pro-law enforcement policy priorities at both the federal and state levels.
Later in the week, Bert met with the Office of Senator Ted Cruz to discuss PODC’s legislative priorities for the 119th Congress. In addition to reviewing PODC-supported bills, the discussion included several measures introduced by Senator Cruz, including:
- S. 512 – Agent Raul Gonzalez Officer Safety Act
- S. 83 – The Thin Blue Line Act
- S. 2867 – Clean DC Act
These bills reflect a continued focus on officer safety, accountability for violent offenders, and restoring law and order in the nation’s capital.
The Office also agreed to bring forward Police Officers’ Defense Coalition’s America’s Law Enforcement Pledge for the Senator’s consideration.
Importantly, Mr. Eyler discussed coordinating a potential interview ahead of National Police Week to highlight what Police Week means to the Senator and to spotlight his legislative efforts supporting law enforcement. The idea was well received and conversations are underway to make it happen.
Bert also met with the Office of Congressman Ryan Zinke for the first time this session. The discussion focused on PODC’s legislative package and the importance of building bipartisan momentum behind officer safety initiatives in the 119th Congress. The Office committed to reviewing both our legislation and the America’s Law Enforcement Pledge for the Congressman’s consideration.
Every week on Capitol Hill, Police Officers’ Defense Coalition works to ensure the voices of law enforcement officers are heard in the halls of Congress. From strengthening penalties for violence against officers, to ensuring departments have the resources and protections they need, our work is about one thing: Backing the Badge — not just in words, but in law.
