WASHINGTON, D.C. — Police Officers’ Defense Coalition commends the House Committee on Natural Resources for advancing H.R. 309, the National Law Enforcement Officers Remembrance, Support, and Community Outreach Act, an important bipartisan measure that will strengthen programs honoring America’s fallen law enforcement officers, educate the public and support officer safety and wellness.

Police Officers’ Defense Coalition has endorsed H.R. 309 and advocated for its passage throughout the legislative process as part of the organization’s broader effort to ensure that the service and sacrifice of America’s law enforcement officers are never forgotten. Introduced by Congressman Troy E. Nehls of Texas, a former law enforcement officer and sheriff, H.R. 309 would establish a formal grant program through the U.S. Department of the Interior to support the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and the National Law Enforcement Museum. The funding would help operate and enhance community outreach, public education, traveling exhibitions, officer safety initiatives and wellness programs.

“Every name engraved on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial represents a life of service, a family forever changed and a sacrifice our nation must never forget,” said Bert Eyler, President of the Police Officers’ Defense Coalition. “The Police Officers’ Defense Coalition has been proud to endorse H.R. 309 throughout this legislative session and applauds Congressman Troy Nehls, Chairman Bruce Westerman and the members of the House Natural Resources Committee for advancing this meaningful legislation.”

Police Officers’ Defense Coalition is calling on its supporters, members of the law enforcement community, and advocates nationwide to contact their representatives and urge House leadership to bring H.R. 309 to the floor for a vote. Supporters should also contact their United States senators and ask them to support the Senate companion legislation so the measure can advance through both chambers without delay.

“Honoring our fallen officers must be more than an annual ceremony- it must be a lasting national commitment,” Eyler said. “We urge every supporter of law enforcement to make their voice heard and help carry H.R. 309 through the House, the Senate and ultimately signed into law.”
